Donna Woods shares her contribution to My MG Sole: a collective shoe-decorating art project designed to keep the MG community connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Donna combined painting and original poetry for a unique interpretation of her own MG journey.

Kait Masters is a visual artist with myasthenia gravis who uses her paintings to contemplate the beauty of the natural world around us, and to build a community of artists with chronic illnesses. Though her MG symptoms often prevent her from traveling, Kait uses these watercolor pieces as her own way to enjoy the outdoors and experience the world.

Alicia Angel is an accomplished singer/songwriter who lives with myasthenia gravis. Her work spans genres, from pop and R&B, to country and music for children’s television. Over 35 of her original songs have been featured on shows such as Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street and Sprout House. Her song “Ring Another Round” is about how MG has affected her life, not just through the illness itself, but through the support she found in the MG community.

Amber Mackenzie is the youngest child of Teresa Hill-Putnam, one of the three participants who share their MG journey with us in A Mystery to Me. All of Amber’s life, her mother has lived with myasthenia gravis, so Amber’s connection to the illness is deep and personal. Through singing, she found ways to cope with stress and to express herself. Amber describes her original song, “Fearless”, as her “own little fight song” that she wrote to remind herself to move forward and pursue her dreams despite setbacks and struggles.

The original song “Sun Creeping In” was written by Casey Trela and Bobak Lotfipour exclusively for A Mystery to Me. The song is about finding hope in moments of despair, and how love and laughter in difficult times can feel like rays of light in the darkness.
